As we know from the city’s own data, the people of Seattle are not satisfied with their internet service. It should be faster and cheaper, like it is in many other parts of the world. And they want the digital dividethe yawning gap between robust high speed service offered in wealthier areas of Seattle and slower, crappier service in poorer areasto be closed. To address all those problems, Mayor Ed Murray is exploring a high…

People need to stop whining about how long this taking. Just having the park above it is going to give Seattle a new image-worthy feature besides the Space Needle. That park, in downtown and next to the sea wall, will be better than the Olympic Sculpture Park.

It’s been a while since we checked in with Bertha, Seattle’s giant tunnel-boring machine. What’s new with you these days, huh, Bertha? Oh, what, you’re moving again? I recently dug 3 feet as part of a systems check. Not celebrating or anything. Just sharing. http://t.co/9lITUOF8cl Bertha (@BerthaDigsSR99) September 8, 2014The Seattle Times’s Mike Lindblom reports on the underwhelming news:We were just pleased we were able to move three feet, after it sat so long, said…

This is why conservatives want to “get tough” on illegal immigration just as they did with crime and then prisons overflowed. http://kuow.org/post/how-prison-corporations-affect-immigration-detention

Part of me thinks that we need to turn Iraq and Afghanistan into surveillance states so that we can catch ISIS and Taliban soldiers when the blend into the crowd. Thats what they do. They protect themselves by blending in. Face tracking surveillance software could follow people and track where they’ve been and meeting other fighters.
On the other hand, when companies receive huge amounts of money from the Defense Department and then wars end and money dries up, they tend to turn their attention to local cities and police departments. We saw the militarized police response in Ferguson, Missouri.
Instead, I would like for citizens in crime-ridden neighborhoods (and not the local government) to put up high definition cameras (not low quality, and enough lighting) to track criminal activity and watch the police too. #terrorists #war #police #surveillance

I was visiting someone in Florida who lives in a crazy neighborhood that I wouldn’t want to live. Still, I’m glad the person sold their gun and got it away from children, even though it was in a safe.
I held the heavy gun in my hands. At once I could feel a sense of nervousness and power. It was like holding the ring in The Lord of the Rings.
People like to have a sense of awesome power, especially those without any real power in their day-to-day lives, but people can do stupid things with what little power they do have. Powerful accidents can happen with powerful tools. Not everyone should have a gun. Only stupid people believe that everyone should have one.

Watch for the aurora tonight! This is one of those few occasions when the aurora shows in Seattle and a night is clear! http://static2.businessinsider.com/image/5413295fecad0479369d1187-800-450/aurora-map1.jpg
