When we think about life and death, we sometimes wonder about the value of life and the meaning of life, or purpose. I don’t think there is a purpose we are given. We have the power to give ourselves purpose. I think the mistake that most people make is that they look inward … a self-ish point of view. We should look outward, not to look for validation from others, but instead to look for how we can make a better life for others, make a better environment, and make a better world for tomorrow.

Many people live their lives as individual cogs in corporate machines. They add no value to the world, but only monetary value to artificial entities. It is the teachers, emergency responders, hospital and clinic workers, environmentalists, human rights activists, and conservationists that work to build a better life for others and the environment. We should be so grateful to them.

When we die, material objects don’t benefit us anymore. Nothing benefits us anymore, because we are dead. But what do we leave behind for others?

We are so insignificant in time and space, that most of what we do does not matter for long. There are some pivot points in history that have changed the course of humanity and the world. Not everyone can be the most influential and revolutionary persons that we read about in history books. But we all have the capacity to do our own little part to make a better tomorrow. That is far more meaningful considering that many people tend to think about what they can get from the world.

‘Tis better to give than to receive.
