If we don’t find signs of alien life anytime soon, it should become very important to ask the question “why haven’t we found evidence of life beyond Earth?” I’m sure Creationists will have their own answer, but I’m not interested in that.

Maybe the speed of light really is an insurmountable barrier. What if life or intelligence tends to kill itself off? Maybe there are too many hazards that have killed off life on other habitable planets. Or maybe there are unknown dangers (radiation, anti-matter, dark energy) that prohibit interstellar travel.
