OMG. Ayn Rand modeled the hero of her story after a psychotic killer.

I imagine a scenario in which an altered reality app gives signals to other people nearby. People are sitting in a cafe on their phones. Those that have the app show a social openness indicator shape above their heads. If they are open to other people talking to them, it’s green. If they are busy or not interested in talking with strangers, it is red.
So you know how people sit around in cafes all day with their electronic devices. Some of them want to chat with others and some don’t.
I can also imagine a funny but harsh cartoonish scenario in which most of the colors are green. Then, a fugly guy walks in the cafe and all of the colors change to red. He then walks out as his indicator turns into a big middle finger gesture.

I have yet another idea for what’s fueling them, but hear (read) me out. I think people are underestimating the anger that comes from taking someone’s privilege away.
For an obvious example, take a child to a candy or toy store. If you didn’t by him/her anything, s/he might be disappointed and whine a bit but life goes on. Let’s say you give the child something and before you get to the register you take it away. Watch out! You’re going to have to deal with a very bad tantrum.
These angry white people feel as though their country was taken away from “them.” All that opportunity and privilege that they used to have before is now being shared with other ethnicities and cultures. If it was that way in the beginning of this country, we wouldn’t even be talking about this.
“Take Back America” is implied code for “take back the privilege, power, and prosperity that is now being shared with others.” That exclusivity felt like a right to them – entitlement, and now that exclusive entitlement is no longer exclusive. It’s being shared with others and it feels like it’s being taken away. It feels like it’s not fair and it’s just not right.
