The rise in populist outrage throughout the world is making some people wonder, what is going on? Well, SCOTUS Judge David Souter said that if great problems aren’t addressed, someone will come along and say, “I will fix all of your problems.” And the people will believe him and give him power. That’s how democracy falls.
For too long, trade negotiations helped those who were most adapt and ready for change. There were protests against these international trade deals, mainly from the left, and where was the right? (sitting on their butts) The politicians said they will add things in their to help soften the blow to workers, but it was way too little.
The world began changing faster and faster with expanded free market trade. People who lived traditional lives, loved tradition, and liked working at the same job for the rest of their lives were in for a rude awakening when the Great Recession hit. Those jobs that they had before weren’t coming back as the economy slowly rebounded. Younger (more adept) people and women were doing better, but not the ones who shunned a changing world.
They became angry and searched for answers. The politicians that represented their tribe were tone deaf and gave them free market lectures. Then along comes a demagogue that was prophesied. He tells the masses, “I will Make America Great Again!”
