Not just “a few bad apples”: U.S. police kill civilians at much higher rates than other countries
Police violence is a systemic problem in the U.S., not simply incidental, and it happens on a scale far greater than other wealthy nations.

Crowdsourced Spectrophotometry Data for AI

I’ve got a great idea. I’m wondering if others think so as well. Imagine a tiny and inexpensive smartphone attachment, like the Square card reader, but it’s a spectrophotometer. Coupled with an app, it sends the data and an image to a public data repository. The user enters in data into the form fields that describe the object being probed.

This could be used in AI applications to give robots or AI apps greater sensory awareness, more than human and canine sense of smell. It could be used to detect diseases and detect objects based upon their chemistry. It could bring us closer to “Star Trek tricorder” diagnostic technology. The potential applications are endless. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectrophotometry

These portable spectrophotometers can be donated to high schools and colleges to be loaned out to science students. With greater amounts of data, the AI will be more accurate. I think Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, and Google would be interested in funding this crowdsourced data project.
