There are different kinds of stress. Chronic stress will slowly make you ill and kill you, or stunt your development (especially when you’re a kid). I cut out day-to-day chronic stress as much as I can, and say “no!” to things I don’t want in my life.
Then there’s the challenges that are very difficult and maybe you’ve never faced it before. You put in all your effort, and you might fail, but then you might succeed. It could be running for miles or climbing a mountain that you never thought you could before.
High school graduation isn’t a great accomplishment – that just means you got through that crap and it’s time to move on. A college degree means so much more.
I did some stupid things when I was a kid, but I avoided drugs! ⭐️ For example, a few times I went exploring in forests and got lost, way lost! I could have freaked out and given up, and then a search party would eventually find me with dogs, but I didn’t want to scare my mom. I had a general idea of where to go and pressed on. It took hours and lots of walking and even wading through swamps, but I made it back home. It was stupid and scary, but after that I felt a great sense of relief and accomplishment. I carried that with me into adulthood knowing that I can get through a lot if I don’t give up.
I don’t think most parents give their kids enough encouragement and opportunities to find out how far they can push themselves and accomplish more than what they thought they could. When they grow up, they’re unsure of what they can or can’t do, stress and anxiety builds up, and it becomes too much more them to deal with. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/the-strange-psychology-of-stress-and-burnout

Stress can have positive power in your life. But at a certain point, it all goes bad.
