As many as 22,000 refugees from Afghanistan are expected to arrive in the U. S. , and many of them will be heading here, to the Seattle-Tacoma area. Washington state has a long history of helping refugees. After the Fall of Saigon in 1975, a large number of refugees from Vietnam settled here in our state. As thousands of people try to escape Afghanistan and Taliban control, many people in Washington state said we should step up and welcome Afghan refugees.

Just speculating here, but I think the biological reason for “dying of old age” goes something like this: – cell division causes telomeres to shrink – short telomeres signal cell senescence – senescent cells emit bad cytokines – cytokines signal capillaries to wither and decrease (in order to stop feeding a potential threat) – organs don’t get enough blood flow – organ failure – death
But why haven’t autopsies shown common capillary shrinkage of the dead? If this idea were true, that should be common medical knowledge by now. Oh wait …
