I sometimes look for power songs to include in my workout that give me more stamina, especially while jogging. I partially remembered a remix of The Pointer Sisters song “Dare Me” from a while back. So I searched Youtube for “dare me remix” and “make your move remix”. I tried out the different songs, but I was just disappointed. The remix I remember is heavily repetitive, and that is something I don’t like because those songs tend to stick in my mind when I’m trying to fall asleep at night. This is the closest I could find to what I wanted to hear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOC6qlA9Xy4

I think I know why it’s so repetitive. The original song doesn’t have much verse content and leans heavily on the chorus, which is what’s featured in the remixes. In the original song, I like how they make it ambiguous as a fight song, and you can see it in their song video. One of them looks like AndrĂ© 3000 though, lol. I love the passion, intensity, energy, and power from these black women voices and it actually helps that they don’t have younger voices.

If I were a song producer, I would rewrite some of the lyrics, add more verse content, and make it even more ambiguous as a fight song, but not in-your-face-aggressive though. I’d ask black women with voices comparable to The Pointer Sisters to sing it. I would make the rhythm intense and almost scary like the Sander Kleinenberg remix of Annie Lennox’s song “Wonderful” or like the Daft Punk remix “Around the World / Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”. Maybe I missed an opportunity to learn how to produce music during the pandemic lockdown.
