I wonder if $25k per person per year for a basic income guarantee would drive up inflation.

If I could redesign welfare to support people living in poverty, I would create a reward and punishment system. It would reward people who take steps to make their lives better, and punish those who break the law and mistreat their own children. Additionally, I would add a “path” program that guides people from hopelessness to job training and character building and towards getting a skilled job that pays more than welfare.

I know that Democrats want to defend everyone’s right to vote, but this shows that maybe they shouldn’t. If they required an IQ test, I think that would eventually work towards the Democrats favor anyway. “To the extent that you are incompetent, you are a worse judge of incompetence in other people.”

The democratic process relies on the assumption that citizens (the majority of them, at least) can recognize the best political candidate, or best policy idea, when they see it. But a growing body of research has revealed an unfortunate aspect of the human psyche that would seem to disprove this notion, and imply instead that democratic elections produce mediocre leadership and policies.

Carrying a gun in bear country doesn’t mean you’re more protected in the event of a bear encounter, according to new research. Firing a gun is no more effective in keeping people from injury or death during bear attacks than not using a firearm, new research shows.
