All while President Bill Clinton was being impeached for lying about a blow job, Republicans in the House of Representatives had trouble finding someone clean enough to be Speaker of the House! … and they settled on a someone who molested a little boy, but made illegal payments to cover it up.
“It turns out Gingrich was at the time having an affair with the woman he is now married who was an employee of the House Agriculture Committee. And then Livingston who was supposed to replace him had to quit because he was having an affair not just with a woman but with a lobbyist who was lobbying him. So then in an effort to get somebody [who was clean], they get Hastert. The point is that all this was happening while they were impeaching Bill Clinton for having oral sex.”

I don’t agree with everything in the article, but it is interesting to ponder. Here, consumerism seems to have become it’s own religion and individualist tradition, displacing others, for worse (but sometimes better – not all traditions are good).

Bullying and Bigotry: I had an epiphany today in which racism, classism, and bullying are linked by a common primitive facet of everyone’s brain. Chimps even do it. Those of higher status expect those of perceived lower status to be silent and docile. If not, the higher status ones will punish them to put them back in their place. It’s not even a conscious reaction. It’s embedded deep down inside and causes a visceral reaction to upstarts that threaten to upset the social order. It’s no coincidence that conservative cultures also have rigid social orders. It occurs in schools and even within families when the introvert gets squelched for speaking up or gets out of line.
