The defund the police and abolish the police thing seems stupid to me. I’m aware that police in the USA may have had their start with slavery, but that doesn’t mean that the police in Canada and France had their start in slavery. Police tactics and rules are very similar. However, in the USA, conservative SCOTUS judges and police unions have allowed police to have power without much accountability.
I’m glad that we have a historically low crime rate. I’m sure younger people are taking that for granted because they haven’t had to deal with a higher crime rate like in decades past.
Republicans are probably salivating at this moment thinking about a come back on a renewed “get touch on crime” campaign if crime jumps due to decisions in the heat of the moment.
