An idea kept me up late last night, so I finally wrote it down. Then I did a search for it and found that others already thought of it first: Magnetic Sailing. Solar sails get media attention, but not magnetic sails. Why not? If there is a meteoroid impact, a large magnetic coil will be much easier to repair in space than a very large sheet.
There’s a slight mention of planetary magnetospheres and gas giants, but there doesn’t seem to be any mention of a galactic magnetosphere, and I’m not referring to interstellar particles. Doesn’t the Milky Way produce a minuscule magnetic field, or does magnetic force decrease too much with distance? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_sail
