I think desalination plants might help us prevent even worse problems caused by CO2 emissions. Lots of desalination plants might be able to keep the ocean currents moving (with denser saline water) if temperature increases cause the ocean currents to stall. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/08/160824111100.htm
