I’m sitting at my desk writing this post, while imagining what it would be like writing this post in VR without the assistance of a keyboard and mouse. With a focus on expending more calories during the day for my health, I have conflicting feelings about the ease of use of a computer, and the health decline that comes with being sedentary for most of the day.
I wonder if there is a VR and motion detection system that controls a browser and other desktop applications. In my idea, people would have to punch, gesture wide (instead of small easy movements), and jump to various keys on a virtual keyboard. That would burn a lot of calories throughout that the day rather than expelling minimal energy with the keyboard and mouse.
I know that we have become so accustomed to the ease of use with the keyboard and mouse, that it might seem annoying to have to put so much physical effort to type up a document, enter a search query, or browse the internet. Even though there would be health benefits to working harder, most people would opt for the easier choice.
Maybe it would be faster to type if people could use the Swipe keyboard interface, similar to what’s used on Android phones for texting. Punching every character could be a slow process, very similar to hunt-and-peck typing. Even then, with enough practice a person could become faster as a hunt-and-punch typer.
