As the DIY bio movement grows, questions have been raised about the consequences of bringing the technology to all.

I want to think next year’s election will be the last big howl for the Tea Party, the right wing extremists, and the neo-neo-nazis in this country (and then crawling back with their tails between their legs). Trump and the clown car GOP have given a loud voice to all the racists who wanted to be heard. Fox News will continue to exist even though Democrats will win big next year. I’m sure the Koch brothers already know the GOP will lose in the presidential race, so they’ll focus their spending on congressional races.
Democrats really need to focus on voter turn out in non-presidential-campaign years. If they can do that successfully, there will be real change in this country. #democrats #election

Don’t let talk of the conservative issues fool you, the primary reason for Republicans winning in the South is racism. This research proves it. Many southern whites supported the New Deal, up until it benefited blacks. http://www.salon.com/2015/12/08/the_south_won_the_civil_war_white_men_racial_resentment_and_how_the_bitter_minority_came_to_rule_us_all/

Nixon’s Silent Majority, neither silent nor a majority, runs Congress and propels Trump. How did this happen?

Many people are wondering why this clown is so popular. These psychologists nailed it. It’s interesting reading that tells us a lot about ourselves, not just certain groups of people. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/10/15/i-asked-psychologists-to-analyze-trump-supporters-this-is-what-i-learned/

This article is about contamination of cell lines, but I think there’s another problem. It also occurs when training AI on a limited amount data. Trained AI behaves predictably well within that data set or with similar data, but when you finally introduce it to a larger data set, the algorithm doesn’t know how to handle it. Relating this to medical studies, biologists are working with limited cell lines that don’t represent a broad population. Robotic labs can help automate processes to make it feasible to test with a variety of cell lines.

The cost of wasted resources may be tens of billions of dollars.

This is another one of those “you must invest in this, so purchase this booklet today!” They great thing about it is that it’s about solar energy. This guy sells solar energy in a way that most people can understand and be motivated by his sales tactics. If you right click on the video, your browser might allow you to show the video controls so you can skip ahead. Share this with someone who doesn’t understand how great solar energy is. http://pro.moneymappress.com/EADSLR3979/PEADRC64/?iris=442305&h=true

Money Map Press, led by publisher Garrett Baldwin, has one goal: to make investing profitable.

It kind of feels like watching a bad Sci-Fi or action movie in which a television or audio program is making people slowly go mad, or like a secret CIA program to destabilize a country.

I tried to create a version of a perpetual motion machine two decades ago. It didn’t work out.
I created an Excel physics model and let a macro loop and calculate if changing the shape would make it better or worse. It created many different versions based on random initial seeds and I picked the model that produced the best results. Then I created a prototype that didn’t work. I spent so much time on this so I felt a very deep sense of failure. I was depressed for weeks.
For my physics model, I used algebraic equations that involved torque, gravitational force, etc. I know that I didn’t take some equation into consideration, but I don’t know exactly what. Not knowing that still bothers me a little.
