The white male majority is seething with anger and frustration as they witness their patriarchal control of the country slipping away – says a white male who welcomes it.

“The iPhone doesn’t have a headphone jack but the Galaxy literally explodes” is a perfect metaphor for the election.
Here’s my metaphor for the 2016 presidential campaigns https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4WGQmWcrbs

LOIS (Alex Borstein) is Peter’s wife, a stay at home mom with no patience for her family’s antics. Then there are their kids: 17-year-old MEG (Mila Kunis), a social outcast and Griffin family punching bag; 13-year-old CHRIS (Seth Green), a socially awkward teen who doesn’t have a clue about girls; and 1-year-old STEWIE (MacFarlane), a diabolically clever baby whose burgeoning sexuality is very much a work in progress. Rounding out the Griffin household is BRIAN (MacFarlane), the family dog, a member of Mensa with a penchant for dry martinis and dumb blondes. This election is embarrassing, depressing, and worrisome.
Who’s ready for another Iraq War, Katrina 2, and the next Great Recession?

More liberals and progressives need to move to rural areas (where it’s been Gerrymandered in favor of Republicans) and swing states.
I doubt it will happen. Who wants to live under conservative rule, see clowns regularly dressed in cowboy hats, and live in fear of being attacked by a gang of bigots? Maybe if they show up in large enough groups like the artists did in Tieton, WA. http://www.opb.org/artsandlife/article/mighty-tieton-arts-titan-in-central-washington/
I love nature, but I also like being in an area with lots of tech jobs and things to do.

Bernie Sanders was the better candidate. This election needed a populist Democrat to fight a demagogue populist Republican. The right wing victories in Europe were warnings that the Democrats didn’t pay attention to. Democrats went with the safer and more established candidate, which was exactly the wrong choice, even though she was seen as a stronger leader, able to hold her own against political attacks. Would Bernie Sanders have been able to withstand the same kind of hate and vitriol that was directed against Hillary Clinton? What would Donald have thrown at Bernie? There would have been lots of red-baiting for sure, but Bernie Sanders would have inspired more people.
Van Jones was right. This election was a “white-lash” against minorities, Barack Obama, and his policies that moved us in a more liberal direction and protected minorities (transgender restroom use and protections against deportation). I don’t believe it was about the economy and globalization. The people who voted against Clinton weren’t unemployed, nor did they lose their jobs to Mexico or China. Trump trumpeted fear and hate – powerful motivators for those who feel like this country was “invaded” by Mexicans, blacks, gays, muslims, and the UN (among the really paranoid).
I really hope the Democrats will learn some lessons here. Fight populist angst with populist angst. Educate people in rural and suburban areas, get to know them, show them that minorities aren’t so bad, and calm their fears. Your message, no matter how carefully crafted and delivered, will be defensively blocked if people don’t trust you and see you as representing the others. Besides focusing on swing states and get-out-the-vote, pay attention to voter suppression (it works both ways). Encourage and integrate younger and newer people to participate within the Democrat Party structure (committee meetings, caucuses) even though it’s boring. Train and prepare more leaders – the current political system just pushes uninspiring status quo and established people up the ranks. Get people motivated to vote every election year, not just every four years.

One of the biggest lies in this election year was that jobs are gone to Mexico and China. If you look at the table, it shows the USA is actually doing very well. And those rust belt states? Not bad either. What Donald Trump was able to do was inspire fear that maybe not them, but other people like them had lost so many jobs. It was a figment of their imaginations! Then he was able to say, “we need change, because of this thing that’s so bad, and those elitists aren’t listening.” http://www.icip.iastate.edu/tables/employment/unemployment-states
