Hadi Partovi, CEO of Code.org, recently wrote in an email: When ChatGPT launched, I showed it to my children, and my 16-year-old immediately asked, “Can I use this for homework?” Before I could answer, he added, “Wait, what’s the point of school if this can do it all?”
I think CEOs of companies are having this same ignorant response with layoffs and hiring freezes. What’s the point in having all these workers? ChatGPT will do most of the work for us! It will come back to bite them hard when they have trouble hiring people because others hired the talent that they laid off.

I bet the GOP debt ceiling hostage takers are hoping for a default on the national debt. It will drive up interest rates on borrowing since the US will lose its great credit rating. They’ll blame Democrats like they always do for collateral damage, and won’t take any responsibility.
The reason I think they are counting on higher interest rates for borrowing is they want to make it more expensive for the the US to borrow, and then discourage more borrowing and spending in the future. What they don’t count on though is that it will force more tax increases to be able to pay for federal expenditures since borrowing could get prohibitively expensive.
But mainly, they can’t wait to blame President Biden for a recession.
